We purchased our first motorhome, a 40′ Fleetwood Discovery, in 2007. It was our first venture into the RV lifestyle which we have enthusiastically embraced. We knew soon after beginning our RV adventure that we were hooked, and there would be new adventures ahead. After attending a 2010 Family Motorcoach Association (FMCA) rally in Vermont, we found the motorhome that we hoped we would someday own. In 2012 it became a reality when we purchased a new 43′ Tiffin Phaeton, which remained our traveling home until 2016. We named our Tiffin, “Tiger Bus.” We thoroughly enjoyed our traveling home, but felt the need to sell after we suffered a devastating fire in a storage facility where most all of our life long belongings were being kept while we waited on the construction of our new South Carolina home to be completed. We purchased our third motorhome, a 2017 Leisure Travel Van Unity 24MB in August, 2016, and took delivery in April, 2017. Since she was manufactured by Leisure Travel Vans (LTV), and we love the Clemson Tigers, we named her, “Little Tiger Van!” While easy to maneuver in parking situations, the LTV’s floorpan and usable space just didn’t meet our needs as a home base on the road for our photography and traveling, so we sold the LTV after our first long summer trip in 2017. Owning a RV can be like boat ownership, in that buying a selling can be just a natural part of the ownership process.
Our newest motorhome next motorhome was a 2018 Tiffin Phaeton which was unfortunately laden with maintenance issues. We sold the problem child after two years and then took a short break from RVing. In March of 2025 we simplified our RV ownership by moving to a much smaller pull behind unit – our Oliver Elite II travel trailer. If you want to know more, click here.
How one views RV ownership, is a matter of perspective. Some people view us, and our traveling lifestyle, as that of rednecks who visit Walmart parking lots and Cracker Barrels around the country (We are guilty!). Others marvel at our traveling amenities and tell us that we are living their dream. One of our favorite points of view was that of one of our former neighbors, whose son (Aaron) who called our motorhome “Mr. Jack’s School Bus!” How can you not love that? For us, our RV’s have been our mountain retreat, lake house, beach house, and all those other great getaway retreats we have always dreamed of having rolled into one. We have truly been blessed.
